The Filmmuseum Berlin is one of six film museums in Germany. It was opened in 2000 as a department of the German Cinematheque - Museum of Film and Television.
With the relocation of the Deutsche Kinemathek in the Filmhaus on Potsdamer Platz, the Filmmuseum Berlin was founded in September 2000. Her permanent exhibition shows the exhibits of the entire German film history in Hollywood in the time of the national socialism: for example movie posters. A special focus is dedicated to actress Marlene Dietrich, who has put together a large private collection.
Since 1 June 2006, the museum has been supplemented with a television museum. The name of the institution was changed to Deutsche Kinemathek - Museum for Film and Television.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Filmmuseum shows special exhibitions. During the Berlinale the current retrospective of the festival will be accompanied.
The Filmmuseum has a library with cheap collections of film literature and journals, as well as cinematography. Until her move to the Filmmuseum, the library belonged to the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb).
