Standing on a cliff, the castle dominates the village, on the left bank of the stream of Aprilongo, near its confluence with the Xévora river, next to the line with Spain. Rebuilt by D. Dinis (1279-1325), it received rambling lines from the reign of King John IV (1640-1656). From its walls one observes the Spanish fortification of Alburquerque. At present he is part of the Plains Tourism and Promotional Area.
The set was classified as Property of Public Interest by Decree published on August 18, 1943.
