From its steep cliff, constantly beaten by the wind, the visitor enjoys a breathtaking panoramic view along the coast, especially the coves of Sagres, the Cape of São Vicente (extreme southwest of the European continent) and the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean. The fortification itself and its surroundings, integrated in the Natural Park of the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, offer the possibility of a close look at the natural patrimony of the coast, especially with regard to the flora, sheltering some of the most representative species of the region.
Currently, the Fortress of Sagres is open daily to the public. In addition to being able to appreciate the structures that date back to the 18th century, modern interventions allow visitors to visit the various areas of the promontory, and can also enjoy an exhibition center, a multimedia center, cultural articles shops and a coffee shop.
