The base of these chimneys is usually the width of the entire kitchen. It was here that, in the old days, families were staying longer. The fire beneath these chimneys had the functions of fireplace for heating, cooking stove and even of smoke to "heal" the sausages. In any situation the fireplace was always open fire, that is, the fire was done near one of the walls of the kitchen - in the area of the "Home" of the fireplace, but this one did not have fireworks.
In Monchique.
The houses of Monchique have traditional Algarvian architecture on the white walls and colored stains of the doors and windows, but at the top they show the typical skirt chimneys, so different from the coast.
